Fonterra is interested to open up its dairy trading platform to other vendors, turning it into a “dairy stock exchange”.
At the moment only Fonterra can sell its milk products through the Global Dairy Trade auction site which has so far attracted about 250 bidders from around the globe.
According to Fonterra global dairy trade manager, Paul Grave, he hopes by opening up its monthly internet auction to other sellers there would be more liquidity, a bigger market and a more reliable sales price.
“At this point we are making people aware that the option is available.”, said Paul Grove
Grave said it was likely the site would incurr other sellers a fee to cover the administration costs but it was too soon to say whether Fonterra would also profit from others selling their produce at the newly established dairy stock exchange
